Game Notes — an offline design desk for small games
A downloadable tool
Game Notes is a small offline workspace for turning scattered game ideas into a design you can review and build from.
Open one HTML file in desktop Chrome or Edge on Windows. No account, installation, cloud workspace, or internet connection is required.
A focused workflow for a small project
- Capture the concept, core loop, mechanics, characters/scenes, and scope.
- Link notes when one design decision affects another.
- Search the whole project, reorder notes, and mark decisions as Exploring, Ready to build, or Parked.
- Add a small reference image to a note.
- Save an editable JSON project and reopen it later.
- Export the full design as Markdown or use the browser's Print / Save PDF flow.
What you get
The download includes the offline editor, a complete fictional example called Lantern Post, and English/Chinese guides. A free sample lets you inspect the example files and exports before buying.
Optional organization pilot
Already have scattered notes for one small game? I am testing a limited $29 fixed-scope pilot: I organize your existing material into one Game Notes project, Markdown/PDF exports, and a decision-status checklist, with one concentrated revision. Send a short representative sample first; this does not include programming, art, engine import, or writing a complete game design from scratch.
Limits and compatibility
This version is designed for a small solo project. Testing covered Windows Chrome 152 and Edge 153, including offline save/reopen and 100 short notes. Other systems and maximum-size combinations are not verified.
This is plain-text editing. It does not include rich text, engine integration, Word import, cloud collaboration, or AI writing. Free tools such as Obsidian also support local notes and links; choose Game Notes if its single-file setup and focused full-project export fit your workflow.
Keep your own JSON backups. Browser recovery is only a convenience, not a replacement for file backups.
The current version is a one-time $8 purchase with no subscription and no promise of permanent updates. The code and fictional sample were created with AI assistance and checked through automated browser tests. The editor itself uses no online AI service and does not upload documents.
Questions about the workflow or the organization pilot? Leave a comment with your project type and approximate note size before purchasing. Do not post private project files in public comments.
